Her background is based on the diamond industry in South Africa, in particular the marine diamond industry. South Africa has an abundance of diamonds and an exceptionally colorful history of the places and the people who cannot resist the allure of a diamond.

This is not all. Burnett has travelled to Sweden where she researched the silver trade of the Laplanders. She has travelled to Whitby, England where she researched the jet industry of the Victorian era. She has even taken a trip down one of the deepest platinum mines in South Africa to see for herself how platinum mining is done.
